We’re pretty sure we won the lottery as the first family to participate in Camp Ometz at the National Abilities Center (NAC) in early August. The experience was one where dreams came true.
We are a family that has always loved the outdoors and have struggled for years to share this together due to the differing needs of our children. The way we ended up doing many activities was by splitting up and one parent doing the activity with one child while the other watched the other children. Camp Ometz and NAC turned this paradigm upside down.
On the very first day of Camp Ometz my husband Ben was overjoyed to find himself riding a tandem recumbent bike on a dirt trail with our daughter Eliyana happily peddling away behind him. This was just one of so many special moments throughout the week… we hiked together in the Uintah mountains, shot arrows at the archery range, went rock climbing in the gym, got to work with horses and spent a wonderful afternoon on the Jordanelle Reservoir in a beautiful motor boat. The most incredible thing about all of the activities was that we did them all together as a family.
We met so many wonderful people who made this all possible. It was like being wrapped in a warm blanket of community and love.
Thank you Utah Jewish Federation and NAC for this life changing experience. We will hold the memories in our hearts forever.
