Speaker Bio: Rabbi Ilana Schwartzman has lived in places far and wide, including Germany, Greece, Israel, and many states in the U.S. Her grandfather Rabbi Sylvan Schwartzman (z”l) was at the forefront of Reform Jewish education and her father Rabbi Joel Schwartzman has been both a chaplain and served as a congregational rabbi.
Rabbi Ilana received her B.A. from the University of Virginia, majoring in English Literature and minoring in Religion. She then continued her Hebrew studies at Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva, Israel. She studied for the rabbinate at the Hebrew Union College–Institute of Religion in Jerusalem and Cincinnati.
She served as Assistant Rabbi for three years in Buffalo, New York, where she met her husband Art Kieres. Rabbi Ilana has honored to serve Congregation Kol Ami since July 2010. In addition to Judaism and Jewish texts, Rabbi Ilana has a great love for people and their personal stories. Her great joy lies in finding the interplay between intellectual Judaism and individual lives and relationships.
Looking forward to see you,
